SWA# 7

1. An online library database provides thousands of articles and gives all of the publishing information to you so that you know the source is reliable. The World Wide Web is free whereas the online databases are not and usually require a password from the library. The web has thousands of sources, articles, and documents but not all of them are considered reliable.

2. A bibliography is the alphabetically arranged list of evaluated sources that might be used in research. An annotated bibliography is a bibliography with a summary attached that shows that you understood the source and your response to it. An annotated bibliography would be helpful because it helps organize the sources that you might use and it makes them easily accessible.

3. Some characteristics of a credible source would be if it is associated with an organization that is recognized in the field you are researching, if it is from a reputable domain, if it is peer-reviewed, and if it is current.

4. You should make a research plan to guide your research to stay focused and organized and so you can see what you need to get done by when in order to have a successful research paper.

5. The exact definition of plagiarism is “In an instructional setting, plagiarism occurs when a writer deliberately uses someone else’s language, ideas, or other original material without acknowledging its source. The definition applies to texts published in print or outline, to manuscripts, and to the work of other student writers.” You can avoid this by doing your own work and quoting anything you take from someone else’s work whether it is a quote or a paraphrase.
