The main claim of the fourth Mac commercial is that Macs are confusing and horrible computers. It is one guy talking about Macs and how he is anti- Mac. There is definitely a humorous aspect to this video. But the guy assumes that the viewer knows what he is talking about. If the viewer doesn’t have a Mac or hasn’t used a Mac before they wont get his humor in the video and probably wont understand most of what he says. His intended audience is for people who enjoy PCs and are also ant-Macintosh. His understated claim is that PCs are better. He doesn’t exactly say that they are better but he speaks badly of Macs the entire video. Therefore he is promoting PCs in an underlying manner.
The second Mac video is also a single person talking about Macs but he is promoting them. His video is very long and doesn’t do a good job of keeping the viewers attention. His main claim is that Macs are actually easier to use and are much better computers. The two videos are both claiming the exact opposite things. The second video is geared more towards older adults rather than younger. The speaker goes on to explain all of the different aspects of the Mac and all the different types of computers they are offering. Older adults would probably enjoy this commercial more because it is very explanatory and gives a lot of information that they could use if they were seriously looking to buy a computer. Another key factor that would attract older adults is that it promotes the Performa Macintosh as a family computer. If it was geared for a younger audience it would be a shorter commercial that was catchy or made Macintosh computers look really cool. Overall the two ads are made in different time periods so they use different styles of advertising to pertain to the audience. They are both very different types of commercials and I think they are both effective based on their geared audiences and time periods.
